Sustainability Story of Sanctuary Resort

|Sustainability Stories

Sanctuary Resort stands on the quieter western edge of Chitwan, close to one of Nepal’s most important wildlife landscapes. Its Pinwheel story is shaped by the meeting of biodiversity, Tharu cultural heritage, low-impact discovery, and community-rooted hospitality.

The resort draws direct inspiration from the indigenous Tharu community. Villas are arranged around a central courtyard, echoing the pattern of a traditional Tharu homestead. This is not design as decoration, but architecture as acknowledgement. Guests are invited to experience Tharu cultural traditions, music, performance, and village life, allowing the resort to become a bridge between traveller and host community.

Its location near Chitwan National Park and the Narayani River gives the stay a powerful ecological context. Wildlife, jungle experiences, birds, monkeys, rhinos, crocodiles, and hand-rowed canoe journeys all form part of a quieter Chitwan experience, away from the more crowded safari circuits.

Sanctuary’s strength lies in letting the jungle and local culture take centre stage. In a world of overproduced travel, that restraint feels almost revolutionary.
